You may find it helpful to check the list below before you attend for your first interview with one of our clients. Briefing Read up about the company in advance. You will normally receive some corporate information from Harpur. And there will be the company web site. Also read through the job specification if you have received a copy. Place of interview Make sure you know exactly where the interview is to take place. You will normally get directions from Harpur either by telephone or in the form of a map. Have the information with you before you leave. Punctuality Arrive at the office where the interview is to take place at least 10 minutes before your interview is due to begin. Allow time for parking. Make no assumptions about parking on the company’s premises. Appearance First impressions count. Be smart, soberly dressed. This is how you will be expected to dress as a manager with customer facing responsibilities, should you be offered an appointment. Interview You will be asked about your record with previous employers. Stress your achievements but don’t exaggerate them. Don’t overdo the criticism of previous employers. After all it was your decision to join them. Confine yourself simply to the things you liked and the things you disliked about the job. Have a credible reason for leaving or planning to leave. Have a five/ 10 year career objective. If you are or have been employed by a competitor don’t disclose confidential information even if asked. Emergency If you have to cancel the interview at short notice or are going to be delayed, call the person you are seeing or his/ her secretary.
